Gemstone: Jewel Beetle Wing

The jewel beetle, or Sternocera aequisignata, is a species of beetle belonging to the Buprestidae family. Historically, these vibrant wings were sewn into Victorian-era gowns, like sequins. They were farmed in Thailand- the shells collected after they died of natural causes. HBJ loves jewel beetle wings for their iridescence and vibrancy.
Origins: Farmed in Thailand
Care: Jewel beetle wings are very delicate. Jewel beetle wing jewelry is typically backed with epoxy to help stabilize it, but they need to be handled with great care: no abrasive surfaces, knocking about, etc. It is an organic material, so avoid chemicals at all costs.
