Ring Sizing

How do I determine my ring size?

We suggest using a finger sizer when determining your ring size. You can find a number of finger sizers online and in stores; you can also visit a trusted, local jeweler to be sized professionally in-person.

However, ring sizers and mandrels are not consistent across the industry, much to the chagrin of jewelers everywhere! If you would like a recommendation for a finger sizer, we are more than happy to share our suggestion of sizers that we use in the studio.

Please note: for international orders, all rings are listed in US sizes on the online store.

How do I determine the ring size for a surprise gift?

We are happy to help you find your intended’s ring size with discretion! That said, the best way is to borrow one of the recipient’s rings (preferably one worn on the intended finger) and have a jeweler (or us!) size the ring.

If that is not possible, take comfort that most (though not all) rings can be sized. Make sure to check sizing options on the individual product listing as each situation is unique. For more information on resizing, see below.

Can I order a ring in a specific size? What if I ordered the wrong size?

At Hannah Blount Jewelry, we sell two types of rings on our website. One type is called ‘One-of-a-Kind’ and the other is ‘Made-to-Order.’

‘One-of-a-Kind’ rings – as the name suggests – are rings that we make once. What you see online is what you get. If the ring size listed on the webpage will not fit you, you can request the ring be resized as a part of the ordering process. Note, however, that not all One-of-a-Kind rings can be resized. The webpage for each ring will indicate whether or not it can be resized and by how much- most rings can only be resized up or down two sizes. This initial resizing is complimentary. We charge a service fee (plus shipping) for any additional sizing. If you have any questions on which size to select, please contact our studio.

‘Made-to-Order’ rings – which include limited edition items – are rings that we produce upon receiving your order. Though you will not receive the exact ring pictured on the webpage, you will receive one very similar that is handcrafted by our team. The webpage for each Made-to-Order ring will allow you to order your preferred size. For Made-to-Order rings, we permit one complimentary exchange for a different size within 10 days of receipt. After 10 days, exchanges will incur an additional fee. Please see our Returns & Repairs page for more information on the exchange process.

For custom orders that are placed directly through the studio (and not through our website), please work with your contact at the studio.

For international orders, we do not offer returns, exchanges, or resizing after delivery. Please work with a local jeweler to resize the ring.

Please note that custom sized rings are not returnable, refundable, or exchangeable.

Why can some rings be sized and others cannot?

It all comes down to materials and design.

For example, silver conducts heat in such a way that it requires the whole piece to be heated simultaneously during soldering. As a result, the heat will damage the gemstone, unless it is removed- and not all gems can be removed. This makes the sizing process much more difficult. Gold, on the other hand, does not require the same heat distribution, making it easier to solder without damaging the stone.

The gemstones incorporated into the ring are also a factor. While diamonds are stronger and harder to damage, opals are soft and fragile. If you heat a ring that contains an opal, even in gold, you will likely damage the stone- thus outsourcing to a repair artist with a laser-welder is required.

As for designs, some rings have a pattern or evenly spaced stones encircling the entire band. If we altered the size of these rings the pattern would be broken.

How much does sizing cost?

For ‘One-of-a-Kind’ rings, please contact the studio for a quote. Resizing after ordering will incur an additional service fee (including the cost of shipping). Note that resizing prices can range from $40 to $300 depending on the complexity of the ring and materials.

For ‘Made-to-Order’ rings, you will order the exact size you need. If you accidently ordered the incorrect size, please contact the studio within 10 days of receipt. We permit a one-time exchange within that 10-day window. After the 10 days, exchanges will incur an additional fee. Please see our Returns & Repairs page for more information on the exchange process.

For custom orders – orders that are placed directly through the studio and not through our website – any resizing will incur an additional fee plus the cost of shipping. Please work with your contact at the studio if you wish to resize your custom piece.

For international orders, we do not offer returns, exchanges, or resizing after delivery. Please work with a local jeweler to resize your ring.

How long will it take to resize my ring?

Ring sizing can take up to four weeks depending on the ring type and materials. Please contact our studio prior to ordering with any time constraints.

Pro-Tips for Finding Your Ring Size

#1 - Fingers fluctuate due to a number of variables, including time of day, weather, diet, etc. Expect your rings to be slightly loose in the cold season and tighter in the warmer months. Once you have your finger sizer, we recommend checking your size several times throughout the day.

#2 - Make sure to test the exact finger intended for your ring. Finger sizes on one hand typically do not match the corresponding finger on the other hand. For example, if you write with your right hand, your ring finger on your right hand will likely be a quarter to a full size larger than your ring finger on your left hand.

#3 - Thick or wide rings usually fit about ¼-½ size tight; therefore, we recommend sizing up ¼-½ size. Rings with more slender bands and top-heavy stones tend to fit about ½ size large, so we recommend sizing down ½ size.

#4 - For our larger-knuckled friends, we recommend adding sizing beads to your ring. These allow for squeezing space while the ring goes over the knuckle and helps with stability during wear. Please contact our studio for additional information and fee estimates for adding sizing beads to your ring.
